This year, OMA will present a new artistic interpretation of its annual fundraiser ball. The Summer Soirée will offer a blend of sophistication and light-hearted fun on a starry summer night from 6:00-11:00 p.m., Saturday July 23. Known in the past as the Museum Ball, the Summer Soirée will sizzle with excitement at OMA and on the street in front of the museum. Reservations for OMA’s Summer Soirée are $200 per person. Those who make their reservations by June 26 will receive the early-bird discount of $175 per person. In addition, a variety of sponsorship options are still available. TRANSITIONS: WORKS BY FRANÇOISE GILOT

September Sound 1997 Oil on Canvas
Interested in mythology, symbolism, and the power of memory, French/American artist Françoise Gilot expresses complex philosophical ideas with lyrical accessibility. Transitions: Works by Françoise Gilot features a collection of oil paintings and works on paper that highlight her interest in color relationships and the fine line between figuration and abstraction. Gilot uses abstract organic shapes to reflect her interest in the formal arrangements of lines and planes, tone-color coordination, and her respect for simplicity. Also known for her earlier relationship with 20th century icon Pablo Picasso, Gilot resided for many years in La Jolla with her husband, polio vaccine pioneer Dr. Jonas Salk. Gilot currently divides her time between studios in New York and Paris. This exhibition is curated by Mel Yoakum, Ph.D., who began his close professional association with Francoise Gilot in 1987.
